Youth T.R.U.T.H. Launched for Children and Young Adults Dealing with Trauma
To help children and young adults cope with traumatic events such as grief, community violence and unrest, Alliance piloted Youth T.R.U.T.H. on March 9, a two-hour training program—offered in partnership with Resilient Church Collective cohort member, True Vine Church of San Antonio, Texas.
Youth T.R.U.T.H. is an interactive, biblically based, trauma-informed offering that helps children, young adults and their caregivers learn healing approaches to healthy mental well-being and ethical character development. The evidence-based program, which serves youth ages 7-21, was designed by Christian psychologist, Dr. Blaire Lewis, who has extensive experience working with youth. T.R.U.T.H.means Trauma (Psalms 34:18), Resilient (Proverbs 24:16), Unshakeable (Psalms 16:8), Transform (Romans 12:2) and Hopeful (Romans 15:13).
To account for different developmental age groups, the curriculum has been segmented into four groups: 7-11, 12-16, 17-21 and caregivers. The core curriculum topics and information are consistent amongst each group. However, the delivery of the curriculum varies based on each developmental and role-specific group.
The March 9 Youth T.R.U.T.H. training program was facilitated by Mrs. LaLoni Leffall. She holds a master’s degree in human services counseling, with a focus on marriage and family therapy. Leffall is a lay counselor, TV host, teacher and women’s advocate. She is author of a published Bible study, The Spirit of Truth and Love: A Bible Study of First, Second and Third John.
Alliance is partnering with Resilient Church Collective churches throughout Texas to offer the Youth T.R.U.T.H. program, with pilots coming soon to Corsicana (May 18), Houston (June 15), and Richardson (August 10).
