Claire Sahlin, Ph.D. is Alliance for Greater Works’ highlighted board member of the month, and she serves as our Board Governance Committee Chair. With over 20 years of experience as a leader in higher education, Claire currently serves as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Cornaro Professor of Multicultural Women’s and Gender Studies at Texas Women’s University, Denton, TX. As well, she previously served there as Interim Dean of the Graduate School, Department Chair for Multicultural Women’s and Gender Studies, and Program Director.
Dr. Sahlin received her Ph.D. and M.A. from Harvard University in the Study of Religion with specialization in women and religion, and her B.A. summa cum laude in Psychology and Philosophy.
Claire’s teaching areas include, Foundations for Scholarly Inquiry in Women’s Studies, Feminist Theories, Feminism and Religion, Feminist Ethics, Ecofeminist Theorizing, Spirituality and Activism, Feminist Pedagogies, New Directions in Feminist and Womanist Theories, Transdisciplinary Studies Colloquium, and Holistic Pedagogies Colloquium.
Also, Claire has conducted extensive research in the following areas: Religion in women’s studies classrooms, feminist perspectives on religion and spirituality, ecofeminism, feminist ethics, women’s spirituality in later Medieval Europe, single-sex education, the institutional development of women’s studies.
Dr. Claire Sahlin is an invaluable resource to the Alliance Board and her expertise and experience are consistent with the goals of Women’s Executive Leadership Program for Systemic Change (WELP).
